Carly Rae Jepsen Releases Double Album 'Day & Night' Alongside New Ibibio Sound Machine and Adult DVD Records
Carly Rae Jepsen has released her latest double album, 'Day & Night,' featuring distinct daytime ballads and nighttime club tracks. The release coincides with new work from UK group Ibibio Sound Machine and the eponymous debut by Adult DVD, offering a diverse range of dance-oriented music.
Carly Rae Jepsen has released a new double album titled 'Day & Night,' presenting two distinct sonic landscapes within a single project. The record is divided into two sides, each targeting different moods and listening environments.
The first half, designated as the "Day" side, focuses on radiant, mid-tempo love songs. Tracks such as "On Wires," "After All," and "Burning Heart" establish this tone. The album also includes "Soft," a track described as reminiscent of Kylie Minogue’s style, and "Something Tragic," which features a reference to Leonard Cohen.
The mood shifts significantly on the "Night" side, which is designed for club settings. This section contains songs intended to compete with high-energy dance records. Tracks include "Amalfi Coast," "Don’t Leave Me on The Dancefloor," "Patience Power Passion," and "No Labels, I Love You." The album also features "Near or Far," which draws influence from house music, and "Motivation," a track noted for its similarity to the work of Troye Sivan.
In other new releases, the UK band Ibibio Sound Machine has issued 'Chopping Mountain' through Merge Records. The group, led by vocalist Eno Williams, combines afro-funk with electronica and dance music elements. The album opens with "Burning in Lagos" and continues with the title track, "When You Want to Dance," and "Return to Sender." The record also includes "Give Me Peace," which provides a slower contrast, followed by "River Don’t Rush" and the retro soul track "Love."
Meanwhile, Adult DVD has released its self-titled debut album on Fat Possum Records. The band produces dance rock aimed at fans of rave culture. The album features tracks such as "Coffin Dodger," "Jesus Christ Supercar," "Minimal Criminal," "Cowboy on Aisle Three," "Real Tree Lee," "Ghillie Suit," "All I Need," and "Rolling Face." The record also includes the track "World’s Best Boss."
These three releases offer varied approaches to dance and pop music, ranging from Jepsen’s structured pop ballads to Ibibio Sound Machine’s genre-blending afro-funk and Adult DVD’s nostalgic dance-rock.
